- What is IRS Form 2290 E-File?
- What is Employer Identification Number (EIN)?
What is IRS Form 2290 E-File?
Electronic filing (E-File or efile) is the process by which Business Tax Returns
are submitted to the IRS via the Internet. E-file of IRS Form 2290 is required for
returns reporting 25 or more vehicles that the taxpayer files during the tax period.
However, all taxpayers are encouraged to file federal tax Form 2290 electronically.
What is Employer Identification Number (EIN)?
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is the nine-digit number that the IRS assigns
in the following format: XX-XXXXXXX. The IRS uses the number to identify taxpayers
who are required to file various business tax returns. You should have only one
EIN for the same business entity. If you have more than one EIN and are not sure
which one to use, call the Business and Specialty Tax Line at 1-800-829-4933. (TTY/TDD
users can call 1-800-829-4059.) Or, you can fax or mail Form SS-4 "Application for
Employer Identification Number" to the IRS. If you do not have an EIN by the time
the return is due, write "Applied For" and the date that you applied for the EIN
in the space shown for the number.
